Rationale
The summer school "Laboratory Astrophysics" was organized within the framework of the DFG Priority Program "Physics of the Interstellar Medium" (ISM-SPP 1573). Its goal was to present the role played by laboratory studies in the identification of the chemical and physical processes that take place in the interstellar medium (ISM). For this purpose, introductory lectures on the interstellar matter presented scientific problems and issues to which laboratory studies can bring solutions. Each introduction was followed by topical lectures on the current research themes in the field of laboratory astrophysics and the techniques that are implemented. The program ended with a seminar on soft skills, that is science communication.
The school was intended for master and PhD students and also postdoctoral researchers from the field of astrophysics or fields related to astrophysics who wished to familiarize themselves with works carried out in laboratories and the needs of astronomers for laboratory data.
Location and Accommodation
The summer school took place at the Am Burgholz hotel in Tabarz, Thuringia.

Program and Schedule
The program comprised introductory lectures on the atoms, molecules, and both bare and ice-coated grains that populate the interstellar medium. Topical lectures describec how these interstellar species are investigated with the assistance of laboratory experiments using various spectroscopy, synthesis, and processing techniques.
A poster session gave the participants the opportunity to present their work, regardless of its subject.
Note: the lecture on molecular spectroscopy in the microwave domain had to be moved from Tuesday to Thursday.
